right now, i lack purpose. not explicitly in the sense where i don't know what i'm doing, but more so in the way that i'm finding out what i care about and how i want to be spending my time
finding my purpose has grown increasingly important to me the past year, but i've taken it the most seriously the last 4-6 months. i've been doing a lot of “soul searching” by trying numerous things like reading, spending time with friends, doing less work, doing more work, etc. while navigating all of this, i found that offering others help has brought fulfillment to my life, and it’s also helped me understand what matters to me
when i was transitioning roles earlier this year, brian agreed to meet and talk about where my head was at. he gave me great feedback on my portfolio presentation and mostly just listened to me ramble about my thoughts. this was something that i sincerely needed at this point in my life, and it's something i'll always appreciate
shortly after talking to brian, i met someone looking for their first design role out of school, and i offered to make introductions and help where i could. in a way, i was able to pass on what brian had done for me. the experience helped me recognize how much i value being around people who offer support even when they don’t have to
i encourage anyone struggling (and even those who aren't) with their northstar to seek to help others while you navigate life. it will positively impact your relationships and help you understand what matters to you along the way. it hasn't given me all the answers, but i've learned how important it is to be a person who helps others
